confesso que não gostei que a ASA ao passar a deter os direitos autorais, em 2005, tivesse optado por uma nova tradução que apresentava como principal novidade o facto das personagens, com excepção de Astérix, Obélix e Panoramix, terem passado a ter nomes "portugueses": Idéfix passou a Ideiafix, o chefe Abraracourcix foi rebaptizado de Matasétix, a sua mulher Bonemine como Boapinta, o bardo Assurancetourix como Cacofonix e o velho Agecanonix tornou-se Decanonix.

Astérix estreou-se no número 1 da revista "Foguetão", a 4 de Maio de 1961, a preto e branco.
passou também pelas páginas do "Cavaleiro Andante" e do "Zorro", antes de se fixar na "Tintin", em 1968.
em 1967 a Bertrand edita o seu primeiro álbum em português.
entre as 107 línguas e dialectos em que está traduzido conta-se o mirandês, com dois álbuns: "Astérix L Gaulês" e "L Galáton" (Astérix o gaulês e O Grande Fosso).

29 de Outubro de 1959 a revista "Pilote" era lançada.
trazia um tal Astérix, que viria a tornar-se um dos mais conhecidos heróis de banda desenhada.
baixo, pouco vistoso e mais astuto do que inteligente.
como companheiro um gigante desajeitado, (quase) sempre com um menir às costas, incapaz de controlar a sua força excessiva, devido à queda no caldeirão da poção mágica.
na aldeia, habitavam um chefe com pouca autoridade, um peixeiro com horror a peixe fresco, um bardo com voz de cana rachada, um ferreiro que usava o martelo mais para bater neste último do que para trabalhar na forja e diversos outros exemplos a não seguir.
todos tinham nomes acabados em "ix" e que sistematicamente andavam à pancada entre si, excepto quando se entretinham a bater nos romanos entrincheirados nos campos fortificados que rodeavam a sua aldeia.
o primeiro álbum - "Astérix o Gaulês" (1961) foi o início de muitas aventuras...
o apuramento gráfico de Uderzo, com as suas personagens arredondadas e de nariz grande e um notável sentido de ritmo e de movimento, aliado ao humor inteligente e irresistível de Goscinny, pouco a pouco foram conquistando leitores, fazendo com que "Astérix e Cleópatra" (1965) já tivesse 100 mil exemplares, e dois anos depois, "Astérix e os Normandos" ultrapassasse o milhão de exemplares.
as bases do sucesso foram os vários níveis de leitura presentes na obra, cativante para os mais novos pelas sucessivas tareias que os gauleses davam nos romanos, e para os mais velhos pela mordaz crítica social e de costumes, pelo divertido retrato estereotipado que Goscinny traçou de cada um dos povos dos países que Astérix visitou.
Goscinny faleceu em 1977, o que levou a pensar que tinha chegado o fim do pequeno guerreiro gaulês, mas após um período de reflexão, Uderzo decidiu assumir integralmente a criação de Astérix e apesar da qualidade dos argumentos diminuir, a tiragem global de "O céu cai-lhe em cima da cabeça" (2005) foi de 8 milhões.
35 álbuns, mais de 1500 pranchas, a garantia de boas gargalhadas, momentos bem passados e um alegre banquete final, com javali assado e sem a voz do bardo a desafinar.
